GST (Australia)
Australia's Goods and Services Tax. A 10 percent consumption tax that side hustlers must register for once turnover passes A$75,000.
GST is a 10 percent consumption tax in Australia. If your sole trader or freelance business turns over A$75,000 or more in a 12 month period (current or projected) you must register for GST through the ATO, charge it on taxable supplies, and lodge a Business Activity Statement. Below the threshold, registration is voluntary. Many freelancers register early because they can claim GST on business expenses. International clients are usually GST free, but the rules around digital services and recipient location can be tricky.
