AU term

ABN (Australia)

An Australian Business Number that identifies a business or sole trader to the Australian Tax Office and clients.

If you run a side hustle or freelance in Australia, an ABN identifies you to clients and lets you invoice without 47 percent withholding. Sole traders apply for free through the Australian Business Register. Above the GST threshold of 75,000 in turnover you must register for Goods and Services Tax and add it to invoices. Personal Services Income rules also apply when most of your income comes from a single client.
