Freelancers are independent professionals who sell skills, time or finished work to clients without becoming full time employees. Freelance work spans design, development, writing, marketing, consulting, video, translation and many other categories. Compared to a side hustle, freelance work is usually higher skilled, billed at a known rate and governed by a written agreement. In the gig economy era, most freelancers work remotely through platforms such as Upwork, Toptal, Contra and Fiverr or via direct outbound to brands.
