Net 14 means payment is due 14 days after the invoice date. It’s the best default for most freelancers: fast enough to protect cashflow, normal enough that good clients accept it.

When to use

  • New clients (until trust is established)
  • Smaller companies without procurement
  • Weekly or fortnightly invoicing arrangements

Red flags

  • Client refuses a due date
  • They want Net 60 or Net 90
  • No payment method agreed

Payment terms: Net 14 from invoice date.
Late payments may pause work until the balance is cleared.

Negotiation moves

  • If they insist on Net 30, ask for a deposit or weekly billing
  • If they need procurement approval, invoice immediately on kickoff

FAQ

Net 14 · FAQ

  • Is Net 14 too aggressive?

No. It’s common for freelancers. If a client pushes back, that’s a signal to add deposits or milestones.

  • Should I include a late fee clause?

Yes, but keep it simple. The bigger lever is the right to pause work on non-payment.
